At Ducker Street, a young and growing family had outgrown their charming period home but remained deeply connected to both the house and its Yarraville neighbourhood. Rather than moving elsewhere, they chose to invest in creating a home that could support the next chapter of family life—one filled with shared meals, lively gatherings and the everyday moments that make a house truly feel like home.

The renovation centred on opening the home to the rear through a generous contemporary extension that transformed the way the family lived and connected. New living, dining and kitchen spaces were carefully planned to encourage interaction while maintaining clear visual connections to the garden beyond.

 

Expansive glazing and direct access to a generous timber deck blur the boundary between inside and out, allowing the outdoor spaces to become a natural extension of family life.

Material selection reflects the relaxed, character-filled personality of both the home and its owners.

A beautifully crafted hardwood timber kitchen benchtop introduces warmth and authenticity at the heart of the living space, while classic white subway tiles provide a timeless backdrop that complements both the period home and the contemporary extension. Natural light, layered textures and a carefully balanced palette create interiors that feel bright, welcoming and full of life.
